Hobby opportunities in Kihniö

In Kihniö, sports activities are currently offered by several organizers. These include the sports club Kihniön Urheilijat, Petäjä College, the municipal leisure and sports services, a school, and private instructors.

Petäjä-opisto adult education centre organizes sports activities mainly for adults and seniors.

At the Kihniö Athletes There is a junior floorball team in two different age groups, volleyball and floorball games for adults, as well as athletics competitions in the summer and skiing competitions in the winter.

School runs after-school sports clubs.

Municipal leisure services offer public swimming hours for residents at the health center pool and free groups led by a sports counselor. You can find up-to-date information about the groups on Instagram and Facebook @kihnionvapaa-aikapalvelut and from the website of the sports advisor.

Kihniö organizes a variety of events throughout the year. The events are organized in cooperation with Kihniö associations and the municipality. In winter, we aim to organize a winter festival, Käskyvuorihiihto and possibly other events depending on the situation.

In 2018, the first sports camp was organized, which has been in the programs annually since then. Sports camps are held at the beginning of the school summer vacation in the first couple of weeks. The first two camps were held exclusively by Kihniö, and after that, the camps have been organized together with Parkano. In the summer of 2026, the 9th sports camp will be organized, which will again be organized exclusively by Kihniö.

Kihniö has magnificent nature and therefore excellent orienteering terrain. To serve orienteering, an orienteering map has been commissioned from Kettukallio Hill, published by Kihniö Athletes, on which 10 fixed controls have been placed. Maps can be picked up from the library. The controls are red and white sticks in nature, with a number sign attached corresponding to the control number. In the appendix you will find fixed control maps, which are in the Kettukallio area (around the school) and on Käskyvuori. Maps are also available from the library and the municipal office.
