Library services
Library services are part of the basic services provided by the municipality. According to the Library Act, "The aim of the library and information services of public libraries is to promote equal opportunities for the population to learn, enjoy literature and the arts, continuously develop knowledge, skills and civic competences, internationalisation and lifelong learning. The aim of library activities is also to promote the development of virtual and interactive online services and their educational content".
In the library you can:
- read and borrow books and magazines
- use the library computers in the library hall and remote work room
- enjoy changing exhibitions and organize an exhibition for free
- play on PS4 console
- participate in events
- use a paid remote service
PIKI online library serves at piki.fi. There you can, among other things, renew loans, reserve materials and pay library fees. An electronic library card is also available in the online library. You can ask the library staff for more information about the online library.
Internet
Three computers are reserved for customers, two of which are in the library hall and one in the researcher's room. There is also one computer for browsing the online library material.
The library has free wireless internet access.
Automated self-service library
You can shop at the library outside of customer service hours during self-service opening hours.
This is how you use the self-help library:
- Log in using the device outside the door with your library card and its four-digit PIN code. If you do not have a PIN code, you can get one from the library during customer service hours.
- Use the machine to borrow and return items, where you also need the same PIN code.

Other services
The library delivers the transfer collection to the day care center for the elderly, the local market and the Pihlaja service housing unit in Suutari. The library's home service is intended for all Kihniö residents who are unable to visit the library themselves due to old age, illness or disability. The material is selected according to the customer's wishes and brought to the customer's home.
The library supports the development of schoolchildren's literacy skills and guides them to become library users, for example by organizing book recommendations and library usage instructions.
Tips and guidance can also be arranged for other groups or library customers in general.
The walls of the library hall have space for hanging over twenty paintings. In addition, there are three display cases. Exhibition space can be reserved free of charge by calling 044 7541247.
Library service fees
Library card
A library card can be obtained by providing personal information and presenting an ID card. Children under the age of 15 need the written consent of a guardian. The card is personal and must be presented every time you borrow. The card holder is responsible for the material borrowed with it.
Changes in address and name must be reported to the library, as must the loss of the card.
The first card is free. A new card costs €2.
You can apply for a library card electronically. with a library card application form. The form uses strong authentication. You can pick up the completed card from any PIKI library after three business days. Bring your ID.

Lending rights
The library is open to everyone. The right to borrow is maintained by adhering to the loan times. A late fee is charged for exceeding the loan times. Unpaid fees of 15 euros result in a ban on borrowing. The right to borrow is restored by paying compensation and returning the loans.

Loans can be renewed at the PIKI online library or by phone.
Loaned materials can be reserved both during customer service hours at the library and in the online library. Reserving materials from your own library is free of charge. The regional reservation fee from other PIKI libraries is 2 €/loan.
The customer will be notified of the arrival of the material via text message, email or letter.
Fees
According to the Library Act, the use of the library's own collections in the library is free of charge. Special services are subject to the applicable fee. A late fee is charged for materials returned after the due date.
For damaged or lost material, the current replacement price must be paid or a new copy must be delivered (does not apply to DVDs).
The library is not responsible for any damage to equipment when using library recordings.

Research room, or reservable remote workspace
The library's research room is a reservable work space that can be reserved for quiet work both during customer service hours and outside of these hours on your own time. There is a computer, printing facilities and wireless internet access.

Fairytale room
The library's fairy tale room hosts a fairy tale hour once a month. The room can also be booked as a meeting or group work space for small groups, and the library kitchen can also be reserved for use by separate arrangement. The room has a PS4 console and a television.
