Pirkanmaa regional security survey launches – residents' experiences will be utilized in the region's security work

The Pirkanmaa Welfare Region will launch a security survey across the entire Pirkanmaa region on May 11th, which will investigate how residents of the region experience their everyday safety. This is the first security survey covering the entire region in Pirkanmaa.

The safety survey is open from 11 to 31 May 2026. The survey collects residents' own views on, among other things, everyday safety, crime, disturbances, feelings of insecurity, accidents and preparedness. The survey also includes a separate section on experiences of intimate partner violence.

Residents' experiences complement the authorities' statistical and register information. Not all phenomena related to everyday safety appear in official statistics, and therefore experiential information is an important part of the overall picture of safety in an area.

– Through the survey, we will receive information directly from residents about how safety is experienced in everyday life in different parts of Pirkanmaa. The results will be used concretely in developing safety work together with municipalities, the police and other stakeholders, says Risk Management Manager Teemu Partanen from the Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Region.

The survey will be conducted as an online survey, and all residents of Pirkanmaa can respond to it. The responses will be collected anonymously, with the accuracy of the municipality and postal code. Local results will be handled confidentially between the authorities and key partners. The results will be announced later, both as a whole for Pirkanmaa and at the municipal level.

The Pirkanmaa security survey is a project implemented by the Pirkanmaa Welfare Region, which is partly funded by the Ministry of Justice. In the future, the survey is planned to be carried out in Pirkanmaa approximately every three years, so that the security situation in the region can be monitored in the long term and developed in cooperation.
